This was an excellent buy in that it is everything the advertisement said it would be. It is quiet and very comfortable. I use it in the evening once I get home from work and it is very enjoyable to use even after a long day. I would recommend it for anyone who wants to excercise and does not have the time to go to a gym.

After assembling a Bowflex Revolution, this seemed like a piece of cake. Haven't tried all programs, but ones I've tried so far are good. I'm surprised at the quietness of operation - can barely hear it. My fan works fine.

Comments about Schwinn Schwinn 231 Recumbent Bike:

I use this product all the time, especially in the winter months. The back support is great, so you're not hunched over as you ride. It has many different levels of resistence, and you can ride it manually, or one of the programs built in. I'm a stay-at home mom, so I ride it in the morning or during nap time, much easier than going to a gym! Very satisfied with this product.

Service & Delivery comments:

When we received the bike - a few days late. The package had a hole in it and a couple of bolts were missing. Also a plastic piece was broken. I was not impressed with the service in getting the replacement parts. I called Nautilus directly and recieved EXCELLENT Service! Thats the way to go.

Comments about Schwinn Schwinn 231 Recumbent Bike:

Although I was concerned after reading reviews [...], the overall tone of the other users convinced me to order this bike. [...]all my parts were present and in fine shape. I am not very mechanically inclined, so I expected it to take an entire evening. It was about 3 hours, a time I would consider pretty good. The bike is quiet (a bit of WD40 helps a squeak or 2) but it performs very nicely and I am very pleased with it.

I am using this once in the morning and once in the evening. We have it in the family room so the whole family can use it while watching TV. Another seat to sit on and it does you some good too. Was leary of the recumbent design but saves your back and allows you to ride longer.

Comments about Schwinn Schwinn 231 Recumbent Bike:

I wanted a bike to use for cross-training a couple of days per week--to supplement my running. The bike is absolutely wonderful and I have only good things to say about. In spite of other reviews, the fan actually does help. The 3 hour time to assemble the bike was because of the complexity and was generally easy. My father-in-law has adopted the bike and is riding it twice a day. Great investment and I could not be more pleased with it. Also, the programs are easy and very effective.

Comments about Schwinn Schwinn 231 Recumbent Bike:

We bought this bike to go along with another, old model schwinn recumbent for our office exercise room. Too many people were trying to use the old bike at the same time. The bike is nice and smooth. It does not feel like you are on a stationary bike like some of the bikes I have tried in the past. The only disappointment is the fan, which because of how slow it runs, really does not have much of a cooling effect. The best thing about recumbent bikes is that you can take your mind off exercising by reading a good book while you go through your workout!

Comments about Schwinn Schwinn 231 Recumbent Bike:

I use this bike daily in the summer when it's too hot to go outside (Las Vegas NV). I can read or watch TV while I ride for about 90-120 min. daily and it is whisper quiet.
I love the programs but like the manual setting better as I like to vary workout a bit more than the pre-sets.
I would include a bigger fan or better fan?
The only thing I would add is a HR monitor on the upper handles, as I can't ride for a long time with my hands "tied down" to the lower bars.
Excellent product, love it, it loves me.

Comments about Schwinn Schwinn 231 Recumbent Bike:

Exceptionally good value. Easy to assemble. Fan does not seem to turn off unless bike is unplugged. Air volume from fan is modest. Heavy flywheel is very smooth and quiet. Quality of materials is generally good - higher quality material bikes might cost dramatically more making this a good value. Not yet sure if this bike would be stable enough for a very serious cyclist training at extremely high cadences with significant levels of resistance.

Comments about Schwinn Schwinn 231 Recumbent Bike:

We have been absolutely pleased with our experience with this bike since we placed our order. The instructions were clear, the parts were there and labelled well, the bike does everything it is supposed to do at an excellent level every time. It's easy to adjust, runs quietly (I don't ever hear it), and it is stable with every different body size and shape. Friends and family have been impressed with this bike, and our 30 year old daughter (a gym rat) was really impressed with the great workout she got while visiting. We really have absolutely no words except positive ones!

Comments about Schwinn Schwinn 231 Recumbent Bike:

I had surgical repair to a torn medial meniscus in my right knee in January. Physical therapy was costly and did not help much so I convinced my husband to let me invest in this recumbent bike. My whole life, I could not stand to endure using a regular stationery bike for more than 10 minutes (too boring) but I can easily sail through 90 minutes (EVERY DAY !!!) on this bike. It is excellent and I highly recommend it.

Comments about Schwinn Schwinn 231 Recumbent Bike:

This particular bike comes in handy, since my doctor told me not to use my treadmill anymore. Now, instead of stressing my knees, I am strengthening the muscles which will give my knees greater stability. There are plenty of levels of difficulty, as well as different programs to keep it from getting boring.

Comments about Schwinn Schwinn 231 Recumbent Bike:

This is the bike to buy. Only drawback is reprogramming each time my wife exercises (time, weight, etc). Quiet operation, ease of use results in both of us exercising on a daily basis. I had chronic arthritis in my knees which disappeared after 1 week of use! I love this machine and highly recommend it to those with back problems, knee/ankle problems. Low - virtually non-existent impact.

FEDEX delivered my bike. The box was torn, crushed and opened. I made the driver stay until I got the bike out of the box. There was one small scuff mark on the wheel cover. Everything else was fine.

Comments about Schwinn Schwinn 231 Recumbent Bike:

I would rarely workout before but now I get on my bike every day. It isn't boring because I just watch a movie or listen to music and pedal. It's so quiet I never bother anyone else in the house and I don't have to turn the volumn up on the T.V. or radio. My husband and I use it everyday and adjusting the seat for our different heights is a breeze, and I'm not mechanical at all.

Comments about Schwinn Schwinn 231 Recumbent Bike:

Very user friendly piece of equipment. Easy pass through accessibility, well constructed frame. I use my recumbent bike 7 days a week logging approximately 100 miles each week. You can't go wrong with a Schwinn product. My only complaint is they need to make a fan that actually works especially if it is going to be used as a "selling point" of the bike. I have recommended this particular bike to several of my friends & family members.

Comments about Schwinn Schwinn 231 Recumbent Bike:

The Schwinn 231 recumbent exercise bike is extremely easy to use and very quiet. I exercise while watching tv and I have no problem hearing the program. The directions for assembling it were easy to follow and anyone can do it. I enjoy the various levels of difficulty and the many programs it offers.

The only problem I've had with this equipment and one of the selling points for me was the fan. The wire from the fan to the panel is just a little too short. It was awkward trying to connect it to the program panel and now that I have it all together, it doesn't work. This was a disappointment to me as I thought it was a great feature.

But, for anyone thinking of purchasing this bike, it is well worth the money. Even my 82 year old mother hops on it to peddle a few strokes.
